All barometers should be tapped gently before taking a reading. See which way the needle moves. Is the air pressure rising or falling? If it does not move, similar weather conditions should continue.

Anywhere in your house! The air pressure is the same of course, no matter which wall you hang the barometer on.

WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, and regulations on these constitute part of UK law. The aim of the law is to reduce landfill. Do not throw away your old clocks! Some WEEE can be recycled or re-used. WEEE can contain hazardous substances, which in landfill can pollute the soil and contaminate water supplies, potentially affecting health and environment.
The UK government is responsible under the WEEE Directive for ensuring that a satisfactory collection network exists for WEEE from private households and discharges this obligation by either requiring distributors to take-back WEEE in store when a private householder purchases a new item as outlined above, or join a Distributor Take-back Scheme (DTS) which provides funds to existing civic amenity sites to upgrade and become approved designated collection facilities (DCF’s). The DCF network will be supplemented by other approved third party sites.
Before you immediately consider throwing away any old barometer, consider finding it a new home if you don't need it. There are several sites that offer free recycling, for example: http://www.freerecycling.co.uk/
Or this website may be of interest: http://www.freecycle.org/search Better still, you might try to offer your barometer for sale to another user if it is still functioning rather than send it for expensive disassembly. Consider Ebay as an option. How does this scheme work?
The WEEE scheme entitles the purchaser of a single product to return a single similar item to the retailer for treatment, recycling or disposal in an environmentally sound manner. [Older barometers may be quite valuable, and are not usually marked with a not for recycling logo as below, however please contact us if you want to dispose of a older barometer, as we may be able to recycle parts and help repair other barometers].

You are permitted to return only barometers to us marked with the logo as above, indicating that the product cannot be thrown away in a dustbin in the usual manner.
This return policy is on a like for like basis, for example, if you purchase a barometer you are entitled to dispose of an old barometer by returning it to us. Customers do not have to pay for the transportation of their WEEE item to us.
To return items on a like for like basis
Please contact us via email within 28 days of the date of purchase, and we will inform you about disposal options. In this email, please quote your order number for the clock that you purchased. Returns must be agreed in advance and be for a common sense like for like basis.
We are committed to a healthy environment and encourage customers to dispose of all waste in a responsible manner. |
